Program of Study
"The Department of Design fosters design practitioners and researchers that are able to creatively use new technologies, science, and humanities for the design of solutions that are usable and functional for various applications covering a diverse range of themes and issues."
- Undergraduate Program
The goal of our undergraduate program in design is to foster creative designers who can lead the innovative design of products, services and product-service systems. We provide interdisciplinary courses on design knowledge, methods and techniques across the entire design and product development process – problem definition, market analysis, user research, idea generation, form and function development, design engineering and prototyping, as well as business start-up.
Graduates of the program will play an essential role as integrative design thinkers and practitioners in future society, leading positive and innovative change by employing user-centered design and scientific methods. Graduates also move into academic researcher posts in design.
- Graduate Program
Our graduate program fosters design practitioners who can develop implementable concepts and lead the entire process of new product development, as well as academics who disseminate groundbreaking research through leading journal and conference publications globally.
From 2020 till 2024, the graduate program is running the ‘New Technology Convergence Design Professional Training (NTCDPT) program’ that provides industry-collaboration oriented masters and doctoral education focusing on IoT products and robotics design. Previously, our graduate program had been one of a handful of Special Graduate Schools (Higher Education Act Article 29-2), ‘Graduate School of Creative Design Engineering (CDE)’, between 2014 and 2020.
