Design Thinking Research Lab

The Design Thinking Research Lab at the Department of Design, UNIST aims to further understanding of the types of thinking applied during design practice. Design thinking (DT), as a universal human ability, can be enhanced and improved over time through design education, design experience, and the acquisition of design skills and knowledge.

DT, as a type of distributed cognition, often requires the representation of ideas expressed as design sketches, illustrations, and prototypes of various levels of detail and fidelity. Rather than focusing on DT as a method or as a strategy to drive strategic innovation, the Design Thinking Research Lab aims to further understanding of design thinking during a situated activity of design. We focus upon the role and use of design representations as expressions of solution candidates, and their relation to DT as an enhanced type of distributed cognition.

울산과학기술원(UNIST) 디자인학과의 디자인 씽킹 리서치 랩은 디자인 실무에 적용되는 디자인 사고에 대한 보다 깊은 이해를 목표로 합니다. 인간의 보편적인 능력으로서의 디자인 사고 (DT)는 체계적인 디자인 교육과 경험, 기술 및 지식 습득을 통해 향상될 수 있습니다.

분산 인지의 한 유형인 디자인 사고(DT)는 스케치, 일러스트레이션, 여러 가지 단계의 프로토타입 등 다양한 형태의 아이디어 표현을 필요로 합니다. Design Thinking Research Lab (디자인 사고 연구실)에서는 디자인 혁신 전략 방법으로서의 디자인 사고 보다 상황에 따른 디자인 활동 중에 발현되는 디자인 사고를 더 심층적으로 이해하는 것을 목표로 합니다. 우리는 문제에 따른 대안 제시로서의 디자인 역할과 사용, 그리고 분산 인지의 향상된 유형으로서의 디자인 사고에 집중합니다.
